Autumnal Scents & New Traditions You Have To Try!

Autumnal Scents & New Traditions You Have To Try!

Welcome to AHLT's Blog! Today at A House Like This we're taking a break from making our hand poured scented soy candles to tell you all about Autumn, our favourite scents to try and perhaps some new traditions for you to explore too.

Sunday, September 23rd marks the Autumnal Equinox which means days of fallen leaves, walks in the woods and seeking comfort in a pumpkin spice latte and gorgeous scented candles are very much upon us…

Autumn is one of our favourite seasons due to the colours it brings into our landscapes and the promise of frolics around All Hallows Eve - it's no secret that James and I love Halloween as you may have noticed from our renovation story (@ahouselikethis). Here’s our top tips on how to mark the occasion, from celebrating the season to how to fill your home with scent and Autumnal decor.

How to mark the occasion :

Due to the Autumnal Equinox marking a time for harvest it also signifies the opportunity to restore balance in the home and begin something new. Here are some considerations :

  • Showing Gratitude - the autumnal equinox is a time for being thankful, even writing a simple list of what you appreciate about your life is a great way to take stock and recharge.
  •
      • Find Balance - Once you’ve identified what makes you feel whole, look to dedicate time to yourself and to your wellbeing. Many harvest festivals take place during this time and this is a great time to give back to your local community and take part. Additionally, you may want to look to mindfulness as many use this time to refocus and centre themselves.
      • Begin a new journey - Some find that Autumn is a time to start something new, which is usually the best time to enter a new hobby or venture - we all know new year's resolutions don’t tend to work so don’t wait put off till January what you can start this Autumn. Perhaps tackle that room that is in need of some desperate TLC or even look to start a new class at your local gym? As someone who recently took up Spin classes I can highly recommend Psycle if you’re looking for something a little different.
  • Prepare your nest - Just as animals prepare for hibernation during winter we too tend to look to our homes for comfort and joy during the months where the weather turns colder. In addition to embracing the “hygge” vibe by adding a few cosy blankets to your home furnishings, perhaps a sheepskin or two, this is the best time of year to bring new scents into the home to bring a sense of calm. Luckily for you, you’re in the right place if you’re after little luxuries that completely guilt-free...
