#MyHouseLikeThis - 8 - Theresa Gromski
Welcome to another edition of #MyHouseLikeThis and boy do we have a treat in store for you today!
We all come across so many influential homes on the likes of Pinterest and Instagram and feel that urge to redecorate our entire homes when we stumble across a certain style that really grabs you and invites you in, even if a far cry from your usual go to. Theresa Gromski is most definitely one of our favourites in terms of inspiration, just one scroll through her cosy and multi-layered feed will get you feeling all the hygge feels you could ever need...especially at Christmas time! If any home stylist is struggling to learn how best to layer their home and fuse genres together then look no further! With the Winter well and truly upon us there really is no better time to plan your home for some serious cosy nights in, and whilst we might have you covered on the scented candle front, why not have a look at what we uncovered when we stepped through the doors of the wonderful home of Theresa Gromski…we guarantee you will not be disappointed!
AHLT : Firstly, thank you for taking the time to speak with us! We know the style and the familiar signature that is your home but let's learn a little bit about you, Theresa!
Theresa: Thank you! I am a stay at home mum to my 6 year old Arlo and 3 year old Anais. I am also a freelance illustrator and content creator for Instagram and am married to my husband Tom. I live in Bournville in Birmingham in an Edwardian terraced house which is part of the Bournville estate. The houses here were built by George Cadbury for his workers at the famous chocolate factory which is just down the road from where we live!
AHLT: Wow, we had no idea! That conjures up memories of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie and also makes us want to devour copious amounts of Dairy Milk, oh well it is Christmas afterall! However, speaking of conjuring, your style certainly evokes a sense of calm and tranquillity, how would you describe it to those who may not have come across your Instagram in just three words?
Theresa : I would describe my style as bohemian, vintage and a little bit rustic!
AHLT: We couldn’t agree more! Definitely getting the bohemian reference, your home boasts so many textures and fantastic stand our pieces. We adore your gold hand chair from Rockett St George and love the amount of stars and pentacles you’ve managed to rustle into your home. You must inspire so many people on Instagram but who inspires you when it comes to interiors and why?
AHLT : I would say Hans Blomquist for his styling and his use of natural materials and colours. I also get inspired by Ilse Crawford for her mix of Scandi influences with English eclecticism. On Instagram, some of my favourite accounts are @hygge_for_home @malmo_and_moss @sixat21 @shnordic @kateyoungdesign and @Deecampling for their Scandi, vintage and rustic styles.
AHLT : Excellent choices, Hams Blomquist is a reference we wouldn’t have thought to marry up before but it totally makes sense! When you have what appears to be such a “complete” home, in that many are in the midst of a renovation and striving to build what you have you must be spoilt for choice with so many little havens existing under one roof. What would you say is your favourite space in your home and why?
Theresa : My bedroom is my favourite space, it’s the largest room in the house (apart from our kitchen) and is such a restful peaceful space, all the furniture in there is vintage and it is filled with plants and lots of textures. If you had to ask me my favourite purchase, that’s where I’d struggle!
AHLT: So...what is your favourite purchase for your home and why?
Theresa : Ah! There are so many it’s hard to pin just one down! If I had to choose I would probably go for my vintage wicker basket chair that you can often see photographed in my living room on my Instagram. The best thing is that it was a total bargain at £40 from eBay!
AHLT : Are there any rooms that you wish you could change or anything that didn’t go according to plan when you started out?
Theresa: There has not really been anything that didn’t go to plan. The main thing I regret is not having more time to plan our loft conversion, which included a guest bathroom. I wish I’d had more time to plan and source fixtures for the bathroom including having a bath put in there. Funnily enough, though my bathroom is by far my most liked and commented room on Instagram! In terms of changing...I’d change lots of things! The main thing I would want to change though would be a bigger more open plan space for my kitchen. I’d love bi-folds out to the garden and a proper comfortable seating area with a log burner!
AHLT : That sounds like a dream, but your garden space is already pretty impressive. What is your latest project in your home and how do you usually plan for them?
Theresa: We spent a lot of time in the summer working on our garden. It’s over 150 foot long so takes a lot of work! We’re building a new practical (man!) shed so that our summerhouse can become a proper space. Our main consideration before starting a project apart from the look we are going for will always be the budget and how much it will cost but aside from this, there’s usually no great plan! My husband is a dab hand at DIY and can turn his hand to most things so we are constantly tweaking our home and changing things up. If I want to redecorate a room I’ll often do a lot of Pinterest pinning and of course use Instagram as a great source for ideas and inspiration.
AHLT : That certainly sounds familiar! So lastly before we wrap up what advice would you give to homeowners looking to start their next decor or renovation project?
Theresa : Whilst I said there is no great plan, the key is to plan it well with mood boards using resources such as Pinterest. Stick with things you love rather than just following trends and it will most likely stand the test of time.
AHLT: Thank you so much Theresa! If you’d like to explore more of this amazing home do check out and follow Theresa’s on Instagram, we love it’s Bohemian and Scandi charm and think you will too - especially her Craftmas specials which are super inspiring for those looking to up their self-made Christmas decor!
